I was thinking on my drive back yesterday, the biggest risk to Welling moving forward is Maxwell going to another club. It's clear from his own personal form guide that any ambitious team in these leagues in need of a manager would have him on a list, so I guess it was important to sign them up now. Even more incentive to stay up, and now we half half a chance of keeping some of this current squad together. At this level, all I want to see is a team play with commitment, which is what Ryan promised, and certainly delivering.
Now all we need is to see a few of our better players show some commitment for the future. Having a core squad of 6-8 players to build upon instead of gutting the squad in May and going through 75 players would be a lovely relief after the last few seasons.
Just my personal view - I understand Ryan Maxwell is doing the job of keeping Welling in the league. However if I were making the contract decisions at the club I would have been inclined to wait until what is a serious FA charge against the manager has been concluded.
Results and number of players say otherwise apart from last month.
Maxwell took over a dysfunctional team with a limited budget, 9 points adrift having played more than all the teams around us and managed to bring back the connection with the fans and pull us out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. You cannot with a straight face say that man deserves to go. We need stability, and keeping a manager for more than half a season is a much needed step in the right direction.
We will lose games - a lot of them. We arent the giant some people think we are - we got relegated and started off with an inexperienced manager. Bad form carried on, and we ended up in the bottom of the league - were not going to suddenly start beating the likes of Brentwood who are chasing promotion. Were a relegation-battling Isthmian Premier side, not a play-off challenging NLS side like we once were. And so, we need to rebuild and revitalise. That can only be done by backing a competent, experienced manager - such as Ryan - and being comfortable with a transition period. One where we will likely sit midtable and have a boring season as we focus on building a squad and working out where we stand financially.
tl;dr: Maxwells done a lot for the club, and will do more in the future. Dont be critical over expected league losses.

His record over the time that he has been here would have us in comfortable mid-table had he reflected that all season. Before Brentwood we were third in the table.
Due to the need to overhaul the squad, it was always going to be necessary to take punts on players. Some paid off, others didn't.
Would you prefer to start from scratch again in the summer, regardless of what league we are in?
Has anyone worked how much the manager cost Welling in lost revenue for Decembers Potters Bar game. With a bumper crowd expected and Christmas attractions in the ground - a bumper crowd was expected. We cannot expected this crowd on Tuesday night. Also do not blame Potters Bar for refusing to play the original game. If the boot was on the other foot I would have not wanted the game to play with Wellings manager in hospital.

Hi Chris. Hope you are well.
When you want to give some absolute waffle to the other party's car insurance company that you've somehow died, come back to life, can't function and need a phat payout you get the Fire Brigade to expend considerable money and effort cutting you out of the car you could literally have got out of after a minor bump.
If you're a now sacked grifter manager for a sh*te team, who pretends to have been beaten merciless by a palm upwards, perhaps silly arm thrust, you also go to hospital and prime your players to get on the coach as you have a rehearsed idea of how you're going to get out of playing a better opponent.
I actually suggested to 'management' that they invite the press to the midweek game as a sort of "fist fight derby" to generate subsequent press headlines but it wasn't taken up. That's fine.
But saying Maxwell has cost the club money when they had a 1000+% website traffic and whatever else, is a nonsense. I submit you are a Potters Bar supporter who has been conditioned that the matter at hand was all because of that big, bad, horrible Ryan Maxwell when actually the now-departed manager got the sack for theft (and therefore dishonesty).
I can only go by facts - and the fact is that the manager has a on-going serious FA charge against him. I have supported Welling United since the 1986/7 season - and this matter needs sorting out.

Ryan Maxwell will be at the gate talking supporters coming into the ground today, and will be in the bar afterwards. Why don't you ask him what happened, face to face? Only he and the ex Potters Bar manager know the truth as far as I am aware.
